Caribbean envoys to the UN: chronic smokers of marijuana?

Diplomats having a joint?

An intriguing spill-off from the recent arrest of a Caribbean envoy to the United Nations has tongues wagging afresh. This time, some elements are putting the US authorities on alert for marijuana smoking UN officials from the Caribbean. According to sources in New York, there is a strong suspicion  that a few diplomatic officials and their staff from noted small islands in the Caribbean are chronic users of the illegal drug. However, the invocation of “diplomatic immunity”, prohibits the law enforcement authorities in the USA from pursuing this issue.

Chronic marijuana use can make one delusional. According to one source delusions may come in the following forms:

  • Grandiose– delusions about inflated worth, power, or status
  • Persecutory – delusions in which the central theme is that the person is being watched, attacked, or harassed (e.g., someone believing that he is being followed by government agents)

Is there in fact widespread marijuana use among small island diplomats from the Caribbean? Can the diplomats from the Caribbean stand up to a random drug test?

This is indeed a matter that merits some  serious consideration.

But, of course no SVG “diplomats” would engage in such conduct which is illegal in the U.S.A., even for diplomats. And, our diplomatic bags have full integrity.
