Gonsalves Budget Adddress 2012, his best ever!

Dr Ralph E. Gonsalves - Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines

As I write this post, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves is presenting his 2012 Budget Address. Needless to say, I am absolutely enthralled! This has to be the best budget speech ever made by the PM since assuming office. I take this opportunity to extend sincerest congratulations to Dr Gonsalves on an excellent job.

In the meantime, look out for the nay sayers! They will do and say everything they can to discredit the PM. But, I believe that every rational Vincentian who listended to this address in its entirety will agree that the PM was at his best.

I consider the presentation by the PM this year to be well organized; very detailed; quite comprehensive; crystal clear; and highly responsive to the issues confronting the country at this time.

As a Vincentian, the Prime Minister has made me very proud today!

It would be interesting to hear the responses from the benches of the opposition, especially that of the Leader of the Opposition.

like him or loath him our Prime Ministers oratory is excellent, he engages, he gets you to listen. There are lots of very positives in the budget we should not condemn for condemn sake. My worry is there is no money all round not just in SVG the Governments track record is very bad in fulfilling many of its promises so how are we to feel with regards to this new Budget. I particularly like the proposals for internet access for all the police stations and clinics in the state. I hope there will not be a restriction to this in that it cost too much so you can only be on the internet for half hour a day. The internet is not as secure as the telephone but it is far cheaper and an effective means of communicating and getting things through. I hope that the internet provision for the clinic would come as a computer on the desk of every clinic and district nurse, every pharmacist and pharmacy in the country and that efforts are made to link this tothe prrivate doctors intheirsurgeries. If connected witheh laboratory results cna be retrieved on line and within minutes patients wont have to tarveltotownto pick up results or wait for days iuntil resullts come back. Doctors nurses pharmacists can could look up clinical things of medical pertinence and inform people who can’t and they could ask questions about management of difficult cases there are real advantages to be had id this is done properly. I also think that educatioin the way forward is the internet, making the police training school a part of higher education and linking it in is a brilliant idea long over due I would say Canouan do not need school building this is goignto be costly inthe long run what is needed are Net books such as teh Kindle or Ipad for each child and ISDN lines and satelite links The children can sit in Canuouan and get their tuition live and direct from the best math teacher in Kingstown or the best English teacher This would give them a head start in information technology. Yesterday the Education secretary in Britain said that IT teaching in britain wil be revamped because it is boring. They need to make it fun using joysticks, Wii,X box etc to get educatiion across he also lamented that peple were not being taught how to write progtamme only to become functionaries of IT. I mentoned this many years ago and one of our educators in our country poo pooed the idea. I also spoke of teaching our children Mandarin and Hindi as China and India wil be the emerging economic powers of the future and we must ve prepared to meet that challenge by not having a language barrier but again that was rubished I hope Ilive to see these things come true.

The response from the Leader of the Opposition is predictable. He is going to say that the budget is not sustainable etc etc
