My Partner and I
I am gay and I am a Vincentian. Since I have discovered and accepted my sexuality, life has been extremely difficult for me and my partner of seven years. It is not at all easy for a so called “buller man” in a backward country like St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
I am an ordinary, decent and law abiding citizen. I am a hard working professional who pays his fair share of taxes and contributes positively to the development of this country. Yet, I am treated like an outcast all because of my sexual preference.
As a teenager my father spat on me; he kicked me out of his house and severed all ties with me when he heard that I was “bulling”. I must thank my grand mother for rescuing me from the streets. I have had to put up with taunting and name calling; I lived with threats and intimidation; I was treated like the lowest of the low for a situation I could not help at all. I was an outcast for being a homosexual.
Thank God I survive! Not only that, I am liberated! I have shed the guilt and shame that burdened me for years. I earn a good income doing a job I love and I have been in a committed relationship with one partner whom I love dearly for nearly seven years. My life is not perfect but it’s getting there.
If you allow me, I would like to use this blog to share with the world, my experiences as a “buller man” in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

If you are going to quote the bible, perhaps we might chose when Jesus asked us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves. Perhaps we might think about what was said about casting the first stone? Perhaps we might remember that the Lord disposes ‘He that soweth discord among brethren’ amongst other vices?
All in all, I wonder how much more hate does the world need?
I find it hard in this day and age to understand why certain people would judge. There is the law and there is God he is the ultimate judge of us all so if am man or woman decides that they are happier in same sex relationships so be it. To many die as a result of being judged by man. For every finger you point remember 4 are pointing back.
Your situation is unfortunate, I think that some people in our country has a ways to go when it comes to equity with people of different sexual orientation. Having said that, I don’t think that the everyone should be classed as backwards. I know many gay people living in St. Vincent who are open. Of course at times they may not be treated fairly, I can say the same for gay friends living in other countries. The only thing stopping them for being treated the same way at times is a lawsuit or jail time. I am sorry that your family and people around you are backwards, but know that not everyone in SVG is like that.

As far as am concerned , no matter how much gay persons try to turn and twist things….its just WRONG! Didnt God destroy a city for this sordid act? Didn’t God get his point across? He could’ve allowed them in the city to ask for repentance but instead he burnt it down! Its clear he wasnt pleased! Now, if “gayness” was an issue, why was Jesus silent on it? Paul spoke about it in the New Testament but in a few verses. And the verses that mentioned something near homosexuality, is left up to the interpreter. Many religious minded folks try to interpret it in a heterosexual way; homosexuals would do the same.

Listen, if you want to hate against the LGBT community that’s fine, it’s your option. I’m a lesbian and I love myself. I get bullied on a everyday basis. I get told I’m going to hell for my sexual preference. My cousin was told that killing gays is a good thing and that all gays should be killed? I love my cousin and would do anything for him, but it hurts when he tells you that staring you in the eyes. Use to I went to church, I thought it was a good thing. But one day, my preacher said all gays should go to hell. I got upset and walked out, because he was preaching hate and that’s not what Christains should do. Christains should love everyone for who they are, not force themselves onto others trying to make them what they are not. On the other hand, does love thy neighbor mean nothing anymore? I lost my fate due to all those who have condemned me, rejected me, and bullied me. It’s strange how out of all the species in the world there is homosexuality in every single one. Now I have read majority of these comments including the article. first of all I have no problems with “GAYS” I have gay friends but that does not mean that I would encourage their sexual preference or think that such preference is right. As a medical Student I know that as some one stated earlier the “ass” is a one way traffic, do you know the amount of diseases that one can get by entering there? In this practise the AIDS virus is mostly spread to both sexes because some of these men who are gay have wifes or girlfriends and they have sex or whatever you call it with these men and still go and have sex with your girlfriend. Now please if you want to be gay I suggest you keep it in the closet. Think about how many diseases you can spread…take this situation: now you have sex with a man, the man have sex with another man(WHO has AIDS) who have sex with your son from your first marriage and give him AIDS…NOW you would want to kill that man now won’t you especially if your son is in University at the peak of his career.

Thanks to the political power amassed by gay and lesbian community, politicians, civic leaders and the business community has chosen to accommodate homosexuality and has succeeded in convincing everyone under thirty that homosexuality is normal behavior. If it is, where is the definitive scientific evidence to support such a claim? I am in favor of a national campaign designed to rehabilitate anyone inclined to be sexual devious and provide council aimed at redirecting their sexual disorientation in accordance with what nature intended. It’s time we wake up and set the record straight! If homosexuality was intended to be normal sexual behavior, why can’t same sex encounters result in human reproduction? Let’s face it, sex was meant to perpetuate life through reproduction, but it is humans who chose to experiment with different approaches to sex and in the process over centuries of social evolution managed to sway people with devious tendencies to depart from the norm and create a subculture we now refer to as the gay and lesbian community. Do not be fooled by disingenuous politicians who will do or support anything that is politically expedient despite the burden that such decisions inflict on the social fabric.
P.S…..After living in the US / NYC for a very long time and having the opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life and sexual orientation, my observations and anecdotal evidence lead me to conclude that political expediency was reasonable for redefining homosexuality and integrating the life style into the larger society as “normal” and acceptable behavior.

@Earlyn Warren – ‘Christianity is responsible for the many ills in society?’ You got to be out of your mind. Christianity my friend allowed the poor to be educated, kept many a youngster out of jail, fed the hungry, clothed the naked, liberated women, freed the slaves, conquered racism, established homes for the aged, abused and orphans, established schools, hospitals and charities, established disaster relief agencies etc.
U cannot be angry with a religion which teaches that God intends a man for a woman. Else you would not be born if it weren’t for that fact.

You got to understand dude that homosexuality though practised is not an accepted form of life in the Caribbean. People prefer a practising gay to be a closet gay as against an in your face gay.
I live in a society and environment where homosexuality is accepted but it is still frown upon, so don’t think it is only in the Caribbean that this happens.
You also got to understand that Christianity and religion are responsible for the many ills in society and whilst you may feel threathened or intimidated, it is part and parcel of being Gay in the Caribbean.
I personally, have no problems with gays although I do not tolerate what is known in the UK as Camp Gays ( Gays who are just to effeminate). S
So please understand you are a product of the society and environment you grew up in and certain things in life will not be tolerated in certain society and environments.
To say that “Christianity and religion are responsible for the many ills in society” is absolutely ludicrous. As a Christian I take offense to that comment because I serve a God who hates sin but loves the sinner. I in no way condone ANYBODY to abuse someone in any way because of their sexuality. I follow what my Bible says and believe that God will judge whom He will judge. However, I will stand up for righteousness and holiness. The fact that homosexuals are mistreated is not a reflection on Christianity but on those “so-called-Christians” who have appointed themselves as judge.
