Is Ralph Gonsalves in good health? Take our poll!

The baggy eyes; the bloated cheeks; the oversized stomach; the wobbly gait; and the laboured breathing; do these present a picture of a healthy man? Certainly not! Yet, this is the image presented by Dr Ralph Gonsalves, the prime minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. One does not have to be a qualified physician to conclude that Gonsalves appears to be in poor health.

In the Caribbean we have the unfortunate experience of losing prime ministers while in office.  In Dominica Rosie Douglas and Roosevelt Pierre met an untimely demise; over in St. Lucia, the elderly John Compton went into a coma and never recovered; and in Barbados, David Thompson was cut down before his fiftieth birthday. Given the stresses of the office, our prime minister must take care of himself.

There are those who believe that the health of our leaders must not be an issue of concern. It ought to be a private matter, they argue.  I beg to differ. One’s health contributes  to state of mind and state of mind contribute to conduct.  In a high pressured job such as that of prime minister,  one is called upon to make life or death decisions that may affect the lives of an entire population. This is an awesome responsibility. It therefore cannot be left in the hands of someone with a questionable state of health and wellness.

Take the poll below and let us know how you feel about this matter.

After giving such a vivid description of the physical appearance of the Prime Minister; why are you now asking such DOTISH POLL QUESTION? To answer such a question one must have some visual evidence to do so… A more interesting Poll Question(s)…Should the Nation be given a YEARLY medical assessment of the Prime Minister as part of PUBLIC POLICY? OR Is the PM’s recent h ealth issues cause for concern? OR HOW LONG DO YOU GIVE THE PRIME MINISTER BEFORE HE RESIGNS DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS?

Best wishes to the Prime Minster, here is to a speedy recovery.

Gonsalves is also an unstable old man, in November 2008 Gonsalves said he fell down on his staircase and injured his knee, back, hand and ankle, in March 2011 Gonsalves he fell on the SAME stairs again…. poor fella.

I believe it is of vital importance that any leader should always be in the best of health. He should have the availability to treatment and care at his finger tip and at top priority. No decision making can be done without a sound mind. Since ultimately it is going to affect millions of families and hard working citizens. They should not be the one to be in control of making that decision as well. As we know most men do not like seeing a doctor. Therefore an assigned individual should be put on this duty. Giving report as to how secure the people should be in their leader while him/her runs the country.
