The Real Issues facing SVG By L D

I have listened and read many people’s opinions on the current state that SVG is presently in. I must say there are a few words to describe all of this, a country that is in complete DISORDER.

There are questions being asked about the laptops. Here is my question why are the laptops such a big concern to the Vincentian people, is it because it was promised to them by Ralph Gonsalves? I believe that if something is promised it should be fulfilled however Vincentians can a laptop bring food on your table, can it pay for a post secondary education for your child, and can it give you shelter and pay for your basic needs? These are the concerns that Vincentian people should be having.

Too much focus is given on unnecessary topics, why is the NDP focusing so much on Ralph and his character; it seems as if some Vincentian people don’t care if they have a PM who has be accused of rape, molesting women and being disrespectful to the nation. Stop focusing so much on matters that can not be changed at the present moment. I am not saying however to forget about these matters since they are very serious accusation and should be dealt with.
The opposition and Vincentians should be focusing on:

  • The Amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code which is a key issue within SVG.
  • Vincentians basic fundamental rights are being taken away to facilitate a few wealthy politicians.
  • The fight to create more jobs for the Vincentian people so that they can be able to provide for themselves and for their families.
  • The issues of great concern in regards to the high rise in crime especially rape that seems to be so vast in SVG these days

The list goes on and on. More emphasis is needed to explain to the people why the opposition is taking such drastic measures in regards to the Amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code.  Here is my take on this. Facebook seems to be the key source of information to all Vincentians in St.Vincent and the Grenadines and internationally. The bill was posted on facebook but no one has given a detailed explanation to the current bill and the changes that have been implemented by the ULP administration. This should be the first thing that the opposition should have done instead of focusing so much on other matters on facebook. I have not seen this done by not one individual of the opposition and there are several of them on facebook.

NDP stop being so predictable! It is only harming you. I say this with a positive mind because so many people have voiced this to me and I believe it is necessary that you take this into account to better the way that your political party deals with matters.

Vincentians and the Opposition more emphasis is needed in standing your ground stop speaking so loosely and start taking action. I listened to members of the opposition state on March 3rd 2011 that they were not going to leave Kingstown and every single person did. If you really want to shut Kingstown down you need to be the example for the people of the country. The Opposition Members should be the first to stand in solidarity so that the Vincentian people can see that they are serious. They should be the first ones to sleep on the streets of Kingstown and I trust you many would be sleeping right next to you.

Vincentians remember the issues you are facing in your own country should be of great concern to you, so stand for your and your children’s fundamental rights and freedoms. Remember it only takes one person to make a difference.

Thanks for explaining this, however I believe it needs to be explained in full detail to people who don’t understand the legal proceedings and how it would either have a negative or positive impact on the rights of people in SVG. There is a great need for it to be put into simple words for the people to understand since from my knowledge more than 50 % of the population in SVG is illiterate which is very sad. Everyone in SVG that has the ability to explain these changes in a simple form, please do. The main focus should be this bill rather than all the unnecessary arguments that are being made. It is important to always maintain a free and democractic society.

Allow me… The right to freely access the court via the criminal procedure modality has been truncated. Technically it still exists, however in so much as one has to obtain a fiat from Colin Williams, former ULP senator and PRO, to access the people’s court, this right may just as well not exist. Williams has clearly demonstrated bias for not only his party, but his flesh and blood, Grantly Williams.

As PRO of a party, in charge of the ULPs public appearance and interface, do you think he will give right of passage to any case potentially damaging t the ULP? Police abuse, pursuit of major party hacks and contributors, cases against the PM and his cabinet…. how dumb do you take us for?
